双2500+应该比一个64 3000+强吧 不过不知道是不是必须配ecc内存?那可就贵了去了。。。
I used to have 2 A7M266-D machine in my home. they don't have to use ECC memory!
However, it's not a really fast platform though! Because the old 760MPX chipset's limitation, it does not support 400FSB, and both CPU are sharing the same, just one, memory bus! This hugely limiting each CPU's memory bandwidth 'cos they have to share the same memory bandwidth! Meaning, say, a Barton XP2500 running at 2.2GHz (don't forget the 760MPX chipset isn't a good overclocker chipset, can't really run very high FSB!!) can do around 10WU/day, a dual XP2500 @ 2.2GHz could probably do about 15-16WU/day!! A single P4c could easily do that and more (typically at 16-20WU/day easily!!)!! and use less power and need less powerful power supply!
Also, again, because of the 760MPX chipset itself, you can't and will never able to overclock the same CPU as high as in a uni-CPU platform!! e.g. if you have a XP1800 could runs at 1.8Ghz, the best you could run it in a dual CPU 760MPX platform is 1.7GHz or less!!
In SETI, a HT'ed P4 IS the best platform! No question! It does not make fastest single WU time, but it does produce most WU/day!! A single P4c @ just 3.2Ghz or so could easily do about 16-20WUs/day!! NO single consumer CPU could top that!! I've seen 23WUs/day (max with some high AR wu) on my old P4c 2.4Ghz @ 3.36Ghz!! No single AMD/G5 could do that!! I've seen a low speed Quad Xeon machine using HT running 8 clients at the same time could produce 65-80WUs/day easily!!! Now that is A LOT of WUs/day!!!!
