5th Anniversary of CPDN Launch

Five years ago today CPDN was launched. Since that time the number of users has grown enormously and over 10TB of valuable climate model data have been produced. We'd like to thank everyone who has made this possible.

Forthcoming database maintenance

Further database maintenance is required and this will mean shutting down the project from approximately 10AM (GMT) on Monday, November 10th. We hope to have the work completed within 24 hours. During this time the main and BBC projects will be down as will the BOINC forum and project status pages, although the PHP board and main project pages should be running as normal.

Server shutdown

    On Friday the 3rd of April there will be some maintenance in the OUCSserver room where our main servers are kept. It will be necessary toshut them down for a while, hopefully no more than 1-2 hours, startingat around 9am on that day. Please keep an eye on the news threads for any further updates.

Classic CPDN client support ending

        Wewill officially be phasing out the classic cpdn client on the 18th ofFebruary. Existing Classic users should un-install the classic softwareand install the supported BOINC version.
Instructions for doing so are here.

We're experiencing hardware problems with one of our servers and there will therefore be some unplanned downtime whilst we repair it; exactly how long is not known at present but we hope to have something up within 48 hours. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

Server space shortage

There's currently a shortage of space on some of our upload servers and one has suffered a power supply failure. The failed supply will be replaced shortly but there will be a wait whilst new RAID arrays arrive to take the load off the other servers. More information will be posted in the PHP board news thread as we get it.

部分上传服务器出现空间短缺，还有一台遭遇了供电问题。马上会更换，但需要点时间来做RAID阵列。

CPDN extends its warmest congratulations to Professor Keith Shine of Reading University's Meteorology Department on his election as Fellow of the Royal Society. Keith is a leading international authority on atmospheric radiative transfer and his work deals with, among many other things, the energy budget of the climate system and identifying the processes that drive climate change. He is a recognised expert in quantifying the radiative forcing of various climate change mechanisms, together with their associated uncertainties. His election to FRS recognises an outstanding research career in this field. Well done Keith!

Web Server Upgrade

We plan to shut down the web server hosting these pages some time around 9AM BST on the 8th of September to upgrade the RAM and processors. This isn't expected to be a long procedure, but whilst it is taking place BOINC clients will not be able to contact the scheduler and the main pages and PHP boards will not be available. The upload servers and BOINC boards will continue as normal.

Thanks for your patience during this upgrade and the earlier, and much more extensive, database upgrades.

RAC modifications

For some time the Recent Average Credit calculations for one particular model type (HadAM3P) have been too high. We've been working on this problem and have deployed an adjustment to the credit calculation scripts that should correct it. Actual credits will be unaffected by this fix. We expect the corrected RAC values to start showing up on the various BOINC stats sites within 24 hours.

最近一段时间以来，流行的HadAM3P模型的RAC太高。我们已经对此进行了校正。

译者PS：最近享受了一段时间的1千多分的RAC，原来是空欢喜，现在被打回原形了……从1500分直接掉回300多分。。。

We are undertaking work on our BOINC server and there will therefore be outages in the next 24 hours. This website will continue to operate, as will the phpBB board, but clients will not be able to connect and the BOINC user pages may be inaccessible. We apologise for the inconvenience and hope to have full service restored as soon as possible.
